IMAGE QUALITYTHE FORMULA FOR
SUPERB IMAGE QUALITY
Highly acclaimed M.Zuiko lenses, Olympus's renowned in-body image stabilisation technology, a high-speed high-sensitivity image sensor, and the TruePic image processor together provide top-class image quality that professionals require.
LENS, SENSOR, AND PROCESSOR
M.Zuiko lenses enable light to strike the image sensor at the right angle for maximum performance. The high-speed high-sensitivity Live MOS sensor allows light and shadow capture of unprecedented clarity. The TruePic image processor renders a natural and refined image with the minutest details. Together they form the foundation for excellent image quality.
Olympus's image stabilisation system, which compensates for a variety of camera shake1 including camera roll, is built into the camera body, ensuring that the light is received by the sensor in stable form. Only with stable light reception, can outstanding image quality be realised.
COMPARE IMAGE QUALITY
Explore the difference in image sharpness and detailing when shot with different camera systems.
Image quality at the center of the picture is similar for all three camera systems, but the resolution at the periphery of the image is the highest when taken with the OM-D or a 35mm full-frame system. This can be justified with the sharpness and detailing of the trees in the image.
Lens: M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm 1:2.8 PRO (equivalent lens used on APS-C and 35mm full-frame)
Conditions: 24mm (35mm equivalent), 1/500 sec, 1:8, ISO 200
COMPARE LOW-LIGHT PERFORMANCE
Observe the noise levels and image clarity for night scenes shot at high ISO settings.
Noise levels of the images captured with the OM-D or a 35mm full-frame system are minimal, as seen in the dark open areas between the buildings.
Lens: M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO (equivalent lens used on APS-C and 35mm full-frame)
Conditions: 36mm (35mm equivalent), 1/13 sec, F5.6, ISO 6400
BEAUTIFULLY DEFOCUSED BACKGROUNDS
Olympus camera systems help your subject stand out by providing beautiful background defocusing.
LENSES THAT DELIVER
All M.Zuiko lenses are developed specifically for use with digital cameras. They feature telecentric lens technology, which reliably delivers light to the image sensor in a way that makes your images sharp to the very corners.
- 1. Subject
- 2. Image Sensor
- 3. Range in which effective light for sensor is delivered
- 4. Enlarged view of image sensor
- 5. Light
- 6. Image sensor window
Olympus's in-body image stabilisation (IS) system compensates for pitch, yaw, vertical/horizontal shifting, and camera roll.1 In addition, it boasts powerful video IS.1 And since it is built into the camera body, rather than the lens, you can enjoy its performance no matter what lens you use. When a 5-axis Sync IS compatible camera and lens are used together, image stabilisation is more powerful than ever before.
SENSIBLE SENSOR SELECTION
Combined with M.Zuiko lenses and a renowned image stabilization system, image quality nearly equivalent to that of 35mm full-frame cameras is achieved, while a smaller sensor size and genius Olympus engineering realize a much more compact camera system.
