It had been a long time since I travelled through the forests of Okinawa. Day and night, I crawled through dense forests and waded into streams on my quest to capture the diversity of life in the subtropics.

In a dimly lit forest, I encountered this small blue spiral. Hoping to capture the hauntingly translucent presence of this blue catfish, I quietly approached it with my ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens. Another time, when a viper appeared, I faced its dangerous beauty with the ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO lens. Looking further away, I quickly changed to my ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO lens after spotting a crested serpent eagle. As the bird suddenly swooped down to a tree above me, I was able to capture its momentary expression.

To capture images of the tiny bugs at my feet to birds soaring in the distance, I walk, encounter, and photograph with a group of lenses ranging from 14mm to 2000mm equivalent. What’s more, this is all in a harsh environment of mountains, valleys, and tropical storms. Thanks to the compact, rugged construction of the OM SYSTEM, I can shoot in any situation. In addition, I was able to take all my shots handheld with the OM-1’s powerful image stabilization and advanced high-sensitivity image quality. This gave me a surprising amount of freedom to shoot.

Forests are filled with a diversity of life. The incredible mobility of this system allows me to explore our world in depth.
